Hey look, another finished object! (That I started in October, but nevermind that.) It's a baby chicken hat! . The story is this: my BFF from grad school collects chickens. (Er, figurines and stuff like that, not actual live chickens.) She and her husband had their first baby in October, so of course I had to make their little boy a wee chicken hat. The earflap hat pattern generator worked great! I decided not to put ties on the earflaps since I worry about young babies and string-type things. Main yarn is KnitPicks Shine Sport in Cream, knit on size 6 circs. The orange and red yarn is just scraps of Cotton Classic, the yarn I use for my Baby Jayne hats. I double-crocheted the comb on the top and made a garter-stitch bias square for the beak, then sewed it on. The eyes are black and white felt that are sewn on. (I thought about making some bobbles for googly eyes, but was defeated by my lack of black and white cotton yarn.) I'm really not too sure about the eye placement, but I could only fiddle with it for so long. :-P For the photos, it's being modeled by one of our Darth Vader snow globes covered in a scrap piece of black wool. I hope they like it, and that it fits! Tags: finished objects, knitting

Oh hallelujah-- either AO3 fixed whatever was wrong, or I found the right portal/homepage/whatever, because now if I go to Yuletide it returns all the fics (instead of the first 1000), which means all the fandoms show up in the filter sidebar, *and* you can filter with an "OR" so you don't have to click through the fandoms one at a time. Which is a long way of saying, help, I've fallen into Yuletide and I can't get out. A Yuletide rec for you! The Cheap Trick Acceleration by liviapenn(Big Bang Theory) "Penny racks her brain for the next twenty miles, trying to think of a subtle way to bring up the topic of meeting your time-traveling future self, or being sent on a mission to avert an apocalypse-related death. Finally she tells herself Forget it, Penny, it's Nerdtown. Sheldon and Leonard have weirder conversations six times a day. Sometimes before breakfast. Sometimes over Twitter." AHAHAHA, YOU GUYS. Okay so remember last year, the HIMYM cast did that "Best of 2008" photoshoot where they dressed up as other characters/people? This year, EW did it with Big Bang Theory. And they dressed up Jim and Kaley as Edward and Bella. With Johnny in a giant furry werewolf suit to be Jacob. (Fandom reaction to this has been amazing: "OMG THIS IS THE BEST THING EVER I still hate Twilight goddammit BUT THIS IS THE BEST THING EVER.") Also Kunal is dressed up as Kanye West and he looks AMAZING. DAMN. Scans are here, for now. (That links to an S/P comm, so skip the comments if that ain't your thing.) Oh that reminds me! We were watching "The Gorilla Experiment" episode (where Sheldon teaches Penny physics) and they referenced Koko the gorilla, and Rogue giggled, and I was like "What?" and he was like "Cuoco the gorilla," and he giggled again. And he calls *me* weird. Tags: bigbangtheory, himym, rogue not rouge, twilol

So I really meant to do this about two weeks ago, but whatever, better late than never-- I opened an Etsy store! I'm selling dice bags, since the boys all seem to covet sirrogue's (made by Steph originally, I should note), and when Janet asked me to make one for Jon as a Christmas present last year, I was like hey, I could try selling these! Of course it took me a year to get around to it! :-P Anyhow, it's pretty much a random experiment, but I had a fun time finding the fabric and making the bags. I've only got three up there now, but I have two more made that I'll post tomorrow when there is once again sunlight. And apparently you can name your etsy stores? I have no idea what to call mine. It's totally bare-bones right now! Tags: craftiness

BWAH. I just watched the most recent Legend of the Seeker episode that Tivo thoughtfully recorded for me (2x04, "Touched"), and here is how I imagine the guest casting for that episode happening: CASTING DUDE #1: Sooooo, we need someone to play a petulant, annoying teenage girl that our viewers will want to stab. Who should we get? CASTING DUDE #2: Waaaaaaay ahead of you, man. Also I FINALLY have a good excuse to use my Pimp!Dumbledore icon (you must make bbs for the good of humankind!) and I can't, cause I didn't renew my paid LJ account. WOE. (ETA: Wow, thank you so much, anonymous benefactor! Icon has now been changed.) Tags: bbs!, friday night lights, legend of the seeker

I've been on a serious NCIS kick lately (thanks, USA reruns). I mean. The characters explicitly refer to the team as a family. And Abby goes around hugging everyone all the time. I'm constitutionally incapable of resisting a show like that. Which is all to say, FIC REC: Agent Afloat AtlantisIt's Ziva. On Atlantis. It's awesome. Basically it spins off the end of S5 of NCIS, only instead of getting sent back to Israel, Ziva's assigned to Atlantis and ends up smack in the middle of S5 of SGA. (And let me tell you internets, *that* I would have watched.) And because I read *way* too much fic, when I started reading AAA, I was like, "Oh awesome! She can meet up with Yoni!" And then I remembered, that's not canon, that's miss_porcupine's fic. Which arguably is better than canon in many ways, but still. (Seriously, she does the best military SGA fic out there. Try her novelization of The Rising (the SGA premiere), and then when you have some time and feel like being punched in the gut, read The Jenny Code. And there are a million more stories too.) Also there are not enough NCIS/Bones crossovers on the intertubes. I found one but doesn't it seem like there should be more? Like the NCIS people find a body, only oh no, it's only a skeleton by now, so they have to call the Jeffersonian and of course then Booth demands to get involved and there is more NCIS/FBI fun stuff and Abby and Hodgins would totally geek out about bugs or something. Also also, you know what would be the most amazing crossover ever? Bones and Castle. Because you know Brennan's aware of Castle, and she thinks he's a talentless hack who has no real understanding of forensic science, and I bet they once met at some conference or event and he totally hit on her and she was like EW, GO AWAY PLEASE, and then Beckett and Booth would be over in the corner rolling their eyes and trading war stories about the ridiculous situations their civilian partners have gotten them into. And after that, I want a Castle/Dresden Files crossover. And a pony. Tags: bones, castle, dresden files, fic, lantis, ncis

So! Next Saturday! Thrill the World! Worldwide simultaneous Thriller dance to set a world record! WHO'S WITH ME!? Seriously, y'all, this is super crazy fun. There's almost certainly one near you; here's the list so far. In the US, the Eastern time zone thrills at 8:30 pm, Central at 7:30, Mountain 6:30, and Pacific 5:30, all on Saturday 10/24. (Times for every country are here). Your local event is likely having rehearsals, or you can learn the dance at home using the *excellent* videos from TTW, here. That's how I learned, and it's actually really really easy. There are eight basic parts to learn, and honestly the hardest thing is remembering what order they go in. Oh, and you don't have to dress like a zombie. Unless you want to, of course. :D Tags: thriller
